Flexible Course Modalities

Faculty at ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ State University facilitate courses in various modalities including asynchronous online, synchronous online, flipped hybrid, hyflex, and technology-enhanced face-to-face. These modalities offer flexibility and cater to different learning preferences and circumstances. Faculty curriculum designers select the most appropriate modality based on the course objectives, subject matter, and student needs, ensuring an engaging and effective learning experience.

Asynchronous Online Facilitation

In asynchronous online courses, instructors and learners are not engaged in the learning process simultaneously. The course content is pre-designed and made available for students to access and complete assignments at their own pace within specified deadlines. Communication between instructors and students occurs through discussion forums, email, or other asynchronous channels.

Lectures, discussions, and collaborative activities occur at scheduled times, similar to traditional face-to-face classes, but in a virtual environment.

Flipped Course Facilitation

In a flipped hybrid course, a significant portion of the instruction is delivered online through pre-recorded lectures, readings, or other materials. Students engage with this content asynchronously before attending face-to-face class sessions. The in-person class time is then dedicated to active learning activities, discussions, and collaborative work, reinforcing the concepts learned online.

Hyflex Course Facilitation

The hyflex modality combines face-to-face and online instruction, allowing students to choose whether to attend classes in person or participate remotely. Instructors facilitate the course simultaneously for both in-person and online students, using technology to enable real-time interaction and collaboration between the two groups.
