Career and Academic Opportunities

Together, a BSCJ and MSW degree will provide students with the knowledge and skills to have impactful and rewarding careers in the criminal justice system. With mastery of theoretical and practical knowledge of criminal justice and social work, graduates of this Double Owl Pathway will be prepared to obtain a wide range of careers in areas such as correctional counseling, offender supervision and support services, victim advocacy, and crisis support. Students completing this degree track will also achieve skills to promote their success in continued academic achievements such as the pursuit of a law degree or PhD in criminal justice, criminal law, or social work.

Double Owl Admission Requirements

  • GPA:  3.50 in ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ undergraduate coursework
  • 60 hours completed toward Bachelor’s degree (i.e., BS Criminal Justice degree)
  • 30 hours completed in residence at ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ

Double Counted Courses

This Double Owl Pathway offers 4 choices of course pairings from which students can select up to 3 pairings.

  • SW 7706 (Fall only)* to count for CRJU 3301 OR Upper Division Elective OR Related Study
  • SW 7700 (Fall only)* to count for Cultural Diversity Elective OR Upper Division Elective OR Related Study
  • SW 7704 (Fall only)* to count for Upper Division Elective OR Related Study
  • SW 7702 (Spring only) to count for Upper Division Elective OR Related Study

*It is recommended that Double Owl students do not complete all three of the courses offered in the fall semester as this will prevent them from meeting full-time status/financial aid requirements during the first fall semester in the MSW graduate program (if accepted into the program). If Double Owl students plan to complete 9 credit hours in the pathway (3 courses), it is recommended that they complete the spring course option and complete only two of the fall course options.
