‘Tis the season for joy, goodwill, and festivities, and what better way to celebrate than by giving back to the community? This year, employees in the Graduate College embraced the spirit of the holidays in a special and heartwarming manner—through a toy drive at their annual office holiday party.

The idea of organizing a toy drive emerged during a collective brainstorming session. The goal was simple yet impactful: to collect toys for children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the magic of unwrapping a present during the holiday season. Departing from a conventional toy drive, they melded the concept with a Secret Santa gift exchange—with an added twist.

Each employee drew the name of a colleague and was tasked with finding a modestly priced toy that that resonated with a unique quality about the person they selected. What role do they play in the office? Do they have a distinctive hobby, favorite color, or unusual pets? At the party, the group engaged in a guessing game, unveiling one by one, which gift represented each participant. The array of gifts, ranging from board games and dolls to action figures and art supplies, reflected the thoughtful—and occasionally humorous—consideration behind each donation.

The Graduate College’s holiday party turned out to be more than just an annual celebration. It became a poignant reminder of the power of collective goodwill and the joy that comes from giving. Graduate College employees not only made a positive impact on the ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ community but also strengthened the bonds within the workplace, creating lasting memories of a holiday season filled with warmth, compassion, and the true spirit of giving.

Post-celebration, the toys found a new purpose through donation to ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ CARE Services, where they will be distributed to families in need. ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ CARE Services offers support to students who have experienced homelessness, food insecurity, and/or the foster care system. ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ CARE Services extends emergency financial and nutritional assistance to any ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ student in need.
