In the first episode of the fall season,, professor of electrical engineering and dean of the, was the featured guest. As a physicist, engineer, and materials science researcher, he discussed his broad-based research interests which focus on building interdisciplinary teams of faculty and students to use compound semiconductor materials and devices for applications in the areas of sensors, illumination, energy harvesting, and spintronics, an emerging field which has applications for new information-processing technologies, such as quantum computing.
Joining ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ State University in 2019 as SPCEET dean, Ferguson is an international educator and researcher. He has had active collaborations in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, which resulted in over 550 publications, conference proceedings, books, book chapters, and multiple patents. He also has been actively involved in the entrepreneurial process of establishing new companies, and has co-founded a business incubator.
Ferguson is a Fellow of the Royal College of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the Institute of Physics, the International Society for Optical Engineering, the Optical Society of America, and the American Vacuum Society. He earned a Ph.D. in Compound Semiconductors from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
