Renowned Violinist to Perform and Teach at 草榴视频 State University on March 25

KENNESAW, Ga. 鈥� The Bailey School of Music at 草榴视频 State University (草榴视频) is thrilled to announce a special performance by the renowned Korean American violinist Soovin Kim on Tuesday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. 
Soovin Kim has evolved from his early prize-winning successes into a mature and expressive artist, captivating audiences with his dynamic performances. After winning first prize at the Niccol貌 Paganini International Competition, Kim received the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, an Avery Fisher Career Grant, and the Henryk Szeryng Foundation Career Award.  

When he was 20 years old, Mr. Kim received first prize at the Paganini International Violin Competition. He immersed himself in string quartet literature for 20 years as the first violinist of the Johannes Quartet. Among his many commercial recordings are his 鈥渢hrillingly triumphant鈥� (Classic FM Magazine) disc of Paganini鈥檚 demanding 24 Caprices, and a two-disc set of Bach鈥檚 complete solo violin works released in 2022. 

Today, he enjoys a broad musical career, regularly performing repertoire of the musical masters such as Bach, Paganini, Beethoven, Brahms, Ives, Mozart, and Haydn, along with world-premiere compositions. He is also the founder and artistic director of the Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival in Burlington, Vermont, and the artistic director of Chamber Music Northwest in Portland, Oregon, alongside his wife, pianist Gloria Chien.

She goes on to say, 鈥淗aving first met as students at our respective conservatories, it is especially meaningful to now host him at 草榴视频. In addition to his recital featuring works of solo Bach, he will also be giving a masterclass for our students, offering them the invaluable opportunity to learn directly from one of today鈥檚 most distinguished artists. This engagement will enrich our entire student body, providing inspiration and expert knowledge. It鈥檚 an experience not to be missed!" 

The University of Vermont recognized Kim鈥檚 work by bestowing an honorary doctorate upon him in 2015. In 2021, he and his wife were named recipients of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center鈥檚 Award for Extraordinary Service for their efforts during the pandemic. Kim devotes much of his time to his passion for teaching at the New England Conservatory in Boston.
