Student Instructions for Virtual Drop-Ins:

  1. When in Microsoft Teams, you should see a tab/icon for 鈥淭eams.鈥  Click it and when on the Teams page, it will show you any teams you are a member of.  In the top right corner, you will see 鈥淛oin or create team鈥 button.  Please click it use the 鈥淛oin a team with a code鈥 option.

    1. THE TEAM CODE IS:  9aaxsqh

    2. It should add you to our COTA Virtual Advising Drop-Ins Team

  2. When you enter the Team, you will notice a 鈥淕eneral鈥 chat page.  We are using this chat page as our sign-in sheet.  ONLY CHAT ONE TIME PER VISIT.

    1. Chat the name of your major.

    2. An advisor will send you an individual chat when you are next in line and ask if you鈥檇 like to continue typing back and forth or start a video call.

      1. If for any reason you need to leave before being helped, please reply to your own chat with 鈥淚 will come back later.鈥

      2. If you do not respond to the advisor individual chat in 3 minutes, the advisor will need to move on to the next student and you will have to put yourself back into the advising queue with a new chat.

Quick Resources

  • Course substitution is the process of using one or more courses to satisfy specific course requirements within a degree program. This process requires approval and can take up to two weeks to appear on DegreeWorks.

    Course substitutions are used in situations such as:

    • Transfer credit that satisfies a degree requirement but needs to be moved on your DegreeWorks
    • A course (with prior approval) was taken to satisfy a degree requirement
    • Internship credit that has been approved to satisfy a specific course requirement
    • Please submit your request in a timely fashion especially if the substitution affects your financial aid.

    Course override is the process of receiving prior approval from the department to register for a specific course. Please note: you will need to register for the course through your Owl Express once the override is approved.

    Course overrides are used in situations such as:

    • A registration error was received and you met the course prerequisite or received prior approval
    • Transfer students please note: you may need to submit an override request form each semester if your transfer course is counting as a prerequisite
    • A closed course requires prior department approval
    • Please submit your request in a timely fashion especially during registration as classes fill up quickly. Requests will be handled in the order in which they are received. 
  • If you are transferring into the School of Art and Design from another school, please email artsadmissions@kennesaw.edu for important information on our portfolio requirements.

    • The School of Art & Design offers three degree programs, and two minor programs for aspiring artists, historians, and teachers: 

      • The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art, with concentrations in ceramics, drawing and painting, graphic communications, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textile and surface design, and sequential art, Illustration, art education, and art history.
      • BFA in Digital Animation
      • Master of Arts in Art and Design
      • Minor in Art History
      • Minor in Classical Studies

      If you are interested in pursuing the B.F.A., you must apply directly to the School of Art & Design and submit a portfolio of your work. Please note that as these are professional degree programs, the earlier you begin your course of study, the better. Do not wait to complete your General Education coursework before applying, as it is unusual that students can complete these degrees in less than three years from the time of acceptance to the major.

      There are specific deadlines by which you must submit your portfolio, and it is important that you submit your portfolio as early in your college career as possible. At the same time that you submit your portfolio, you can also request credit for studio art courses based on courses taken at another college or university. Carefully review the information on the School of Art & Design website before you submit your portfolio:

      Art Admission Information 
    • Dance offers a Bachelor of Arts in Dance with concentrations in ballet and modern/contemporary, as well as a 15-hour dance minor. 

      If you are interested in pursuing the B.A. in Dance, you must apply directly to the Department of Dance and complete an audition for the faculty. 

      Auditions are held on specific dates each year, and you must submit your application at least one week in advance of your selected date. 

      Our dance minor may be an option for you if you wish to continue your dance training while pursuing another major at 草榴视频. An audition is not required for the dance minor; contact the Department of Dance directly for more information.

      Dance Academic and Audition Requirements
    • Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, the Bailey School of Music offers two degrees as well as a music minor:

      • Bachelor of Music in Music Education: The
      • Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Music Education degree is offered with concentrations in General Music Education, Choral Music Education, Band Music Education, and Orchestra Music Education.
        Bachelor of Music in Music: The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) degree is offered with concentrations in Composition, Instrumental Performance, Jazz Performance, Music Theory, Piano Performance, and Voice Performance. 
      • Minor in Music: The 草榴视频 Bailey School of Music offers an 18-credit Music Minor for students. The Bailey School of Music approves all music minors and advises students as to all specific requirements of the minor.

      All programs in music, including the minor, require a separate application to the Bailey School of Music, and an audition on a principal applied instrument or voice. If you are interested in music education or in the B.M. concentrations in Composition or Music Theory, you will also be asked to complete an interview with the faculty. If you are interested in composition, you will submit a portfolio of work in addition to your audition and interview. 

      Please note: You must be in good academic standing with the university (minimum 2.0 adjusted GPA) in order to become a major or minor in the Bailey School of Music.

      Auditions are held on specific dates each year (in November for January acceptance, and November, February or March for August acceptance). It is important that you apply and audition as early in your college career as possible, as it is unusual that you would be able to complete a degree in music in less than three years from the time you are accepted as a major.       Our music minor may be an option for you if you wish to continue your music training while pursuing another major at 草榴视频. Contact the Bailey School of Music directly for more information.

      All ensembles are open to any student, and, while some do require an audition for placement, others are open to any student who wishes to participate. The ensemble auditions are separate from admission auditions.

      Music Ensemble Information

       

    • The Department of Theatre & Performance Studies is a distinctive undergraduate program that includes theatrical production, musical theatre, storytelling, performance of literature, performance art, and the performance of self in everyday life. The Department of Theatre & Performance Studies offers a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre & Performance Studies with concentrations in acting, performance studies, design/technology, and musical theatre. 

      Please note: While no audition is required to become a major, you must have a minimum 3.0 adjusted GPA to become a major. 

      Auditions are held separately each semester for theatre and musical theatre productions, the 草榴视频 Tellers storytelling ensemble, the 草榴视频 Improv Society (K.I.S.S.), the Music Theatre Ensemble, and the Music Theatre Practicum. Typically, these fall within the first full week of classes each semester, and often in late April or May for early productions the following fall.

  • Art Career Mentoring Service Registration

    The Art Career Mentoring Service is a listing of "This Week's Art Shows" and "Exhibition Opportunities" created by Professor Robert Sherer and other School of Art and Design personnel. It is a free Email service enabling awareness of opportunities and events to students and friends of the 草榴视频 community.

  • Freshmen applicants fall into two categories at 草榴视频 State:

    A. Students who have never attended another college and have graduated from high school within the last five years are considered traditional freshmen. 
    B. Students who graduated from high school within the last five years, have attended another college or university, but have earned less than 30 semester hours or 50 quarter hours of transferrable college credit are considered transfer freshmen. 

    In order to gain acceptance into a major in the College of the Arts as either a freshmen or transfer freshmen, follow the steps detailed below:

  • Students who have completed at least 30 semester hours or 50 quarter hours of college credit are considered to be transfer students. If this does not apply to you, please refer to the admission information for freshman above.
