The Consortium
Ever since ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ State University sent its first group of students to Montepulciano, Italy, in 1999, the University has partnered with a consortium of schools within the University System of Georgia to develop programs in Tuscany.
Currently, the Montepulciano Consortium is responsible for the traditional summer study abroad programs in Montepulciano—two, five-week sessions. Students from across the University System of Georgia take general education courses and upper-division courses in fine arts, liberal arts, humanities, and sciences while taking field trips throughout the Italian peninsula. Courses are taught by faculty from ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ, GCSU, Georgia Southern, and VSU and past subjects include art, art history, literature, Italian studies, sociology, theater, psychology, anthropology, geography, mathematics, and writing. It is ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ State University’s hope that as new programs are developed in Montepulciano, universities within the Consortium will participate in these opportunities.
