Peer Support

Peer education supports the idea students learn from others that they can identify with. Center for Young Adult Addiction and Recovery peer educators are trained to deliver a 50-minute alcohol and other drug prevention presentation in academic classrooms. These presentations are designed to help students make informed decisions about alcohol and other drug use, provide students with campus resources, as well as give students an opportunity to self-assess their own substance use behaviors.

If you would like a CYAAR peer educator to deliver a presentation to your class, please fill out the form below for each class you would like a peer education presentation. CYAAR peer educators can deliver presentations in class, or in synchronous online settings. If your class is online, please note the platform that you will be using in the location section of the form.

Become a Peer Educator

The Center for Young Adult Addiction and Recovery offers students the opportunity to become peer educators, trained to deliver alcohol and other drug (AOD) prevention education in classroom settings. Peer education presentations are 50 minutes long, including time for discussion and questions. Students who volunteer for CYAAR peer education will be trained in recovery-informed AOD education by CYAAR staff in group settings. Trainings are held over summer, and require a commitment of 10 total hours over three weeks. Presentations are held throughout the academic year, and peer educators can choose presentations based on availability.  

Becoming a peer educator means making a difference on your campus. Peer education is also a great way to boost a resume or CV and learn valuable presentation and public speaking skills!
