Practicum Training Overview

The offices of Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) and the Center for Young Adult Addiction and Recovery (CYAAR) of ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ State University (²ÝÁñÊÓƵ) offers training experiences for masters and doctoral students in counseling, social work, and psychology. We utilize an integrated, multidisciplinary model in the delivery of mental health services to ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ students. We provide training that values both individual differences and cultural diversity in the community. The training year may involve provision of services on the ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ campus or Marietta campus, or both. Our training program is service-oriented and tailored to provide a broad range of training opportunities with particular consideration to the uniqueness of each discipline. We typically host a cohort of seven to nine trainees across the various disciplines. Trainees typically begin their training together in the fall semester. Trainees provide 20 to 24 hours per week of services depending on program requirements. Trainees receive at least one hour of supervision from their primary supervisors each week, along with weekly group supervision and additional supervision from secondary task supervisors (e.g., when facilitating a counseling group). Our training program prepares mental health professionals for general clinical outpatient practice and outreach.
